Olly Knight-Smith is a professional musician who has an incredible passion for anything musical. Performing to a high level on a variety of instruments, Olly has completed a music performance degree at the University of Kent. In addition he has previously studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford specialising in guitar. During his time studying he has looked extensively at genres such as funk, soul, r ‘n’ b, rock, pop, progressive rock, reggae, dub, punk, americana, experimental, jazz and hip-hop.
Having studied such a wide range of music Olly has the ability to adapt to the current musical surroundings with tasteful ideas that are coherent to the style, whether it is playing guitar, bass, drums or vocals. Furthermore he has played many famous venues such as the O2 Academy Islington, New Orleans Mint, Tunbridge Wells Forum and music festivals such as the New Orleans French Quarter festival, Boardmasters in Newquay, El Dorado festival in Herefordshire and Lounge On The Farm in Canterbury.
Performing regularly in both original and function bands, Olly has an abundance of experience in a live situation. In addition he has many years of teaching experience with a method that makes lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst also maintaining a clear progression for students, enabling them to achieve their full potential as a musician.
Olly teaches guitar, bass, ukulele and music theory on Wednesdays and Sundays.
As well as teaching here at TW Music School, Olly plays for six piece funk and hip-hop group ‘Top Cat Collective’, a duo with singing/piano teacher Harriet, called ‘Fredn Groove’ and a new project called Jack’s Hotel.
